Bracken's scout troop decided to do the Space Derby this year. WOW can I just tell you how TERRIBLY competative I am?
Let me just explain and you'll maybe cut me a bit of slack... :)
Bracken and Jason worked REALLY hard on this rocket.... I helped a bit too.... but we read the instructions well and by the time it was time for TAKE OFF... we were ready. So we thought. Here is a picture of the finished product!

We get to the church and they just aren't quite ready for us yet. Well... AN HOUR LATER.... and I don't want that to be derogatory, because we have a FANTASTIC scout master, but it took seriously forever. Well, if you stand around long enough you begin to learn tricks..... Here are a few we learned for you future Space Derby goers:
- Make sure to wind YOUR OWN rocket.... you can never trust anyone else to do this.
- Replace the rubber bands EVERY... yes EVERY race. I AM NOT KIDDING EITHER!
- When you don't do either #1 or #2, you will lose :(
- Make your rocket not too thin. The only thing that really matters is that you place the hanger in the middle so that your rocket "hangs" on the hanger level.
- My last and final HINT if you will.... make sure if there is a lane running "faster" than any other lane to get to it FIRST!!!!!! DAD'S out there... I hope you are listening.... It is VERY pertinant to your Space Derby winnings... :)
With that being said... We had a great time. We finally got underway and Bracken ended up taking 2nd in his troop. It was SO fun to see the smile on his face when he won. He totally cracked me up... he was SO terribly nervous to even go down to the church before it started because he wanted to WIN so badly. It was great! All of the boys had a great time.

Here is a picture right before Take off.....

Well, taking 2nd earned him the chance to go to District! WOW and how exciting is that? Well... this is where ALL of the rules really came into play! Especially numbers 1,2,3,4 and 5. Let me again stress the importance of numbers 1 and 2. Well and okay #5.

The day just wouldn't be complete without this:

Needless to say we had one of the fastest rockets there, but there was one dad whose name was read first ALL the time and had to be on the FAST lane all the time too... :) Okay... the competativeness is coming out in me. It still makes me mad to think about it. Bracken still ended up taking 5th out of 16 boys and we had a blast watching that cute smile every time that Rocket hung on that wire....Thanks to all of the great fans in the stands. We love you all!
WAY TO GO B!!!! We love you TO INFINITY AND BEYOND!!!!
